5 Cartoons You Need to Binge-Watch (Adults Only)

1. Big Mouth

I think Big Mouth has perfectly encapsulated the tougher aspects of growing up, especially dealing with puberty by creating puberty monsters for each of the elementary school characters. Every episode deals with different problems that everyone can either relate to, has dealt with themselves or should be educated about. But they manage to discuss these real-life issues in an extremely humorous light. For instance, there are episodes focusing on very woke and present-day issues like being a person of colour, the LGBTQ+ community, smartphone addictions and suffering from depression. These are very heavy topics, but Big Mouth manages to incorporate dark humour, highly inappropriate jokes and catchy songs to keep you wanting more.

How many seasons? 4 seasons, so start binge watching immediately

Episode you need to watch: Disclosure the Movie: The Musical! (Season 3 – Episode 10)

Where can you watch it? Netflix

Fun fact: Nick Kroll voices more than 12 characters in the tv show and they vary greatly and are all equally entertaining

2. Bob’s Burgers

This has got to be one of my favourite shows of all time. For an adult animated tv show, this is highly respectful while also being very funny. The family is loveable and the first episode makes you very comfortable with the characters. If you have not heard about this show, you may be thinking how could an adult cartoon show about burgers be at all interesting? The stories the writers come up with are creative and there is honestly not one bad episode. There are so many memorable episodes that have so many quotable lines, which you will undoubtedly be exchanging with your friends.

How many seasons? 11 Episode you need to watch: Brunchsquatch (Season 8 – Episode 1)

Where can you watch it? Amazon Prime

Fun fact: Two of the female characters on the show are voiced by male actors and boy does it work

3. BoJack Horseman

BoJack horseman is one of the strangest adult cartoon shows I have ever seen and that says something considering no adult cartoon is normal. This is a surprisingly heavy tv show that follows a celebrity horse through Hollywood (or Hollywoo). Usually cartoon characters do not age, however, we follow our characters through their lives and their enormous character development. This show is considerably trippy and for good reason considering how much the main character ingests drugs and alcohol.

How many seasons? 6

Episode you need to watch: Free Churro (Season 5 – Episode 6)

Where can you watch it? Netflix

Fun fact: The animated characters are a mix of animals and humans and no one ever addresses this

4. Disenchantment

This show contains mystery, adventure and a little bit of magic. The trio is focused around a princess, a devil and an elf so I hope you’re already hooked. It truly is an enchanting show despite the name and is made specifically for adults. The humour is immaculate with the perfect balance of dark jokes that will make you chuckle and light humour that will also make you chuckle but with less guilt attached. If you have outgrown your Disney princess obsession and you are ready for a funnier and more adult version look no further.

How many seasons? 2

Episode you need to watch: To Thine Own Elf Be True (Season 1 – Episode 9)

Where can you watch it? Netflix

Fun fact: This was made by the producers of The Simpsons and has the same animation style

5. Rick and Morty

If you are looking for an animated series that is out of this world (literally), this is the show for you. Every episode is amazing and considering how annoying and selfish the two main characters are, you learn to fall in love with them. The concept is truly brilliant and the way in which they are able to write jokes that will make you literally laugh out loud and then write scenes that will tug at your heartstrings is quite incredible.

How many seasons? 4

Episode you need to watch: Total Rickall (Season 2 – Episode 4)

Where can you watch it? Netflix

Fun fact: Rick’s now signature burping was an accident in the recording studio
